Just met BusinessWeek's Chief Economist Today

Today I went to this:

Thursday,
February 8

Chinatown Gardens
directions

Michael Mandel
Chief Economist
Business Week

“Will Our Children All Work In Hospitals and Doctors’ Offices?”

for lunch, got there a little early, and the only one there was the speaker, Michael Mandel.

"Are you Dr. Mandel?" I asked him. I said I was from the U.S. Census Bureau. He asked me if I was an economist. I said that planned to become one; I had an undergraduate degree in economics. He asked me from where. I said, "Brigham Young." He said, "So you graduated from Brigham Young and came all the way to DC?" I said that there were a couple of students from Brigham Young who worked there, so they hired five straight analysts from Brigham Young. That was when someone disturbed him.

Then he said, "So there were people from Brigham Young there so you decided to follow in their footsteps?" Yes.

He asked me where I wanted to go to graduate school. I told him the best school possible. I asked him about his Harvard degree.

Nice guy.
